Heritage Grants
The Wheal Peevor Project comprises part of the Cornwall mineral tramways. The site has a unique arrangement of listed and other structures, and with Scheduled Ancient Monument and specific county archaeological designations.
The project consolidated these historic buildings, which include three Grade III-listed engine houses together with the remains of associated furnaces. Essential health and safety works remediated unfixed mining features and addressed site based contamination arising from the legacy of mining activity.
As part of the works, sympathetic landscape and trail creation was carried out to enhance the site’s rich biodiversity. Better signposting and explanation of the mining site was also put in place, to help visitors better understand the history of the site and mining processes.
Cornwall County Council took over management of the site in 2009 and Cormac Limited now provides management services on behalf of the council.
