As Weymouth Sailing Club reached its 100th anniversary, a group of volunteers undertook a project to celebrate and share local sailing heritage.
Their centenary celebrations involved a wider range of people in heritage through regatta events and an exhibition of the club’s history.
Based at Weymouth Harbour, the exhibition included the last known Weymouth Falcon, a traditional wooden dinghy, which had been the basis of the club’s fleet for many years. The exhibition better interpreted and explained changes and developments in sailing and reflected specific historic moments and events.
Volunteers carried out club and other archive research, creating a History of Weymouth Sailing Club website and physical archive for permanent display in the club. As a result the collection is better managed and secured for the future.
