Grants for Places of Worship
Sunderland Minster is a Grade II* listed building located in the city centre. The building dates back to the 19th century. The nave was rebuilt in 1933-35 by William Douglas Caroe in a reinterpretation of the late Gothic style.
The roof and external stonework repairs have been the main works. Visitors can also enjoy improved facilities in the café and toilet areas, as well as better signage and a cycle rack. New interpretation material was distributed among visitors. Volunteers were trained to become tour guides and to support in events. Local people attended conservation workshops and a medieval banquet as part of the project.
The Minster planned to offer a wider variety of services on its new spaces with a vision to attract wider audiences.
