The project was to carry out urgent repairs to the Grade II listed St Cadoc’s Church, Trevethin, near Pontypool.

This was part of a wider repairs and renewals project aimed at encouraging greater community use of the building.

The project focused on stonework repairs, external repointing and internal plastering, renewal of several bell chamber floors, and repair of the vestry roof.

St Cadoc’s is largely a mid-19th century church and has historical association with the Hanbury family of Pontypool Park. The church contains the Hanbury family chapel and associated monuments, as well as the memorial chapel of the 2nd Battalion the Monmouthshire Regiment.

Repairs to the bell chamber floors have enabled the church’s eight bells to be used for the first time in many years. Regular bell ringing now takes place at the church along with visits from bell ringers of other churches.

As part of a wider scheme of restoration, the project is also providing a facility for cultural activities through the work of youth organisations and visiting professional musicians.
