The long-term future of Shrewsbury Drapers Hall was secured in 1999 when Shrewsbury Drapers Hall Preservation Trust was able to purchase it as part of this project.
Drapers Hall is a Grade II* listed building, which was built between 1576 and 1580. Due to the decline in membership of The Drapers Company and charitable foundation, by the late 1980s the building was in a poor state of repair and faced possible dereliction. The Hall was then acquired by the London Drapers Company, who refurbished the building and added a three-storey extension.
Free access to the building was maintained after the Preservation Trust purchased Drapers Hall in 1999. The Preservation Trust was then able to make repairs to the building, preserving its heritage and maintaining public access for the future.
