A project bringing the herbaceous border of Rotten Row, Southport, back to life.

The focus of this project was to restore a Victorian herbaceous border on Rotten Row in Southport, bringing it back to its former glory in line with original plans from 1912.

Historically the border had been an attraction for the local community and visitors alike. Upon completion of the restoration in 2015, the border has again become a place of pride for the community and has seen a huge increase in tourists to this important area of gardening heritage.

The project established a Friends of Rotten Row group which has taken on the management of the garden border to ensure the changes made are sustained. The project engaged with local schools and community groups to help bring the border back to life through replanting and maintenance.

Across the whole duration of the project the group managed to rack up an incredibly impressive 12,400 volunteering hours. They achieved local and UK-wide recognition for their efforts including a Green Flag Community Award.
