The new mezzanine gallery now displays significant elements of the museum’s collections, particularly the Chinese collections. The project also involved enhancing visitor facilities by creation a multi-purpose activities room and sensitive and delicate displaying artefacts that were previously in storage. The development of the new display area has now released space to be used as an education resource room and allow the museum to extend the range of educational activities on offer.
The Oriental Museum is the only museum in Great Britain dedicated to the art and archaeology of the Near and Far East and Indian subcontinent. The collections cover the cultures of Asia, the Levant and the Maghred, and date from prehistoric artefacts to contemporary arts.
