This project celebrated the 150th anniversary of Newark Town Cemetery.

The cemetery was built, not just as a memorial and final resting place, but also for the people of the town to enjoy. The project had three distinct phases:

1. Interior renovation of one of the two 1850, grade II listed, neo-gothic style chapels at the centre of the cemetery.

2. The creation of an interpretation centre within the restored chapel, to allow visitors to learn about the history of important or notorious families buried in the cemetery and how their lives shaped the history of Newark. Exhibitions will also cover the burial traditions and cultures of those buried there including the local Polish and Travelling communities.

3. The creation of a number of cemetery trails, including a trail focusing on the flora and fauna.

The project was designed to help secure the future of a historic building and help people learn about the heritage of the cemetery.
