A £2.7million grant scheme in Keighley is transforming the Yorkshire market town, through a mix of streetscape and building improvements, and reminding visitors and locals of its proud heritage.

The building improvements include using stone flags instead of tarmac on pavements and the restoration of a run-down arcade and upper floors of the Yorkshire buildings, giving the character of the conservation area a new lease of live.

The town has a great deal of character and this is being revealed during the project, with many hidden features being discovered such as Victorian shop fronts, old signs and carvings.

By reinstating traditional shop fronts and signage, the streetscape is taking on a fresh appearance that is appealing to new businesses which take pride in their town centre streets.

Sue Oakley, THI Officer, said: "Thanks to the engagement of property owners and funding from the Heritage Fund and Bradford Council we are successfully restoring several historic buildings in Keighley. The town has a great deal of character and this is being revealed during the project, with many hidden features being discovered such as Victorian shop fronts, old signs and carvings."
