Parks for People
Houghton Hall Park has a rich heritage and is highly valued by the local community in Houghton Regis. The park has played an important role in the history, culture and landscape of the local area and in the community.
The Brandreth family created Houghton Hall Park as we know it today and had a significant impact on the town of Houghton Regis throughout the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. It was Alice Brandreth who is credited with creating the park and manor in the late 17th century.
The Renaissance and Renewal project will help celebrate local heritage and restore the vitality of the park by:
- creating a heritage hub within the park
- creating a fitness trim trail around the park
- restoring the original kitchen garden
- restoring the old formal gardens
- developing a volunteer programme
The project was awarded £2million to transform the park. The grant will enable the park to return to its former glory.
