The British Indian Army was vital to the war effort and helped to fortify the front line during the First World War.  Out of the 1.3 million Indian soldiers who made up the volunteer force, approximately 400,000 were Muslim.  The Punjabi Muslim were the backbone of the Indian Army and were regarded as steady men who were known for their reliability.

Over 18 months the project will be creating a documentary collating photographs, memorabilia and interviews from families whose ancestors were involved in the wars.  Workshops will be held and an exhibition created to enable the community to learn about the First World War and the contributions of Muslim soldiers.  These will be held in the community, local mosques and Waterside Arts Centre, Sale.

Alchemy Arts is a media and arts organisation that specialises in using drama and art forms to help local communities to build skills and create an environment for positive communication to explore issues around self-respect and self-awareness.
