Sharing Heritage
This project will capture oral histories of local people, young and old, to discover the changes in both the attitudes towards mental health, and the delivery of care.
The project will also use drama to interrogate some of these changes. Stories will be adapted into short radio dramas. Participants will also have the opportunity to research the history of the Winnick Mental Assylum (1897-1997) and visit the new Hollins Park hospital which now inhabits the site, to explore how treatment has changed.
The project will result in the production of radio broadcasts which will include a series of talks from health professionals and a phone in with members of the community. These broadcasts will be combined with the radio dramas to create a series of podcasts to share the collated information with the wider community.
D Street Media aims to give disadvantaged groups a voice, to air their views and concerns using film, theatre, social networking and digital radio. For this project the organisation will team up with volunteers from The Samaritans, mental health charity Mind and Liverpool Community Radio.
