Start Up Grants
Within the grounds of the Grade I listed Turton Tower, is the Grade II listed stable building. It was built in the 1600s as a cow barn with cart shed, hay loft and servants' accommodation. The stables were constructed using stone and some of the original internal features can still be seen.
For the past 50 years, this historic building's potential has not been realised as it has only been used for storage.
Turton Tower Trust is now investigating the options available to enable them to bring the stables back to life as a sustainable heritage enterprise. With start-up support from us, the Trust is developing the skills of the existing volunteer team, staff and trustees through a variety of training and development activities.
A focus has been placed on capital project management and developing the resilience of the organisation, including a review of the organisation's constitution and governance.
During this project, the Trust will also develop a new capital and revenue finance strategy and conduct a conditions survey which will provide the basis of a conversion design concept.
