A History of Newport Cricket Club and the historic Rodney Parade Ground project shared the history of a locally important County Cricket ground.

Newport Cricket Club is one of Wales’ premier Cricket Clubs.  Their 18-month project focused on the history of the club, the players and the important milestones since 1835.

For nearly a century (1893–1990) the club was based at Rodney Parade, a historic county cricket ground and some of the best players in world cricket played there. Few people now realise the historical importance of the club and there was a danger that the club’s stories and memorabilia would be lost.

Volunteers undertook research, collected artifacts such as trophies and shirts, organized community events, worked with schools and created an exhibition space. Memorabilia was collected from people as far away as Australia and over 60 ex-players attended an opening ceremony, many having not seen each other for over 20 years. Further open days provided members of the club and the general public with an insight into the club's history and importance in the local community.

Mike Knight, Newport Cricket Club, said: “It’s a fantastic asset for the club.”
