Committee member opportunities across England and Wales

Committee member opportunities across England and Wales

HLF is looking for at least one committee member in Wales and eight committee members across England in the following regions: East of England, East Midlands, South West and the West Midlands.

We are also recruiting for a new committee chair for our North West Committee.

Why join an HLF Committee?
Being a committee chair or member presents an exciting and challenging opportunity for individuals with a strong commitment to our diverse heritage. Committee members who will be standing down in March 2013 have said:

“I've been able to contribute a unique perspective to the Committee based on my own life experiences and equalities expertise. Heritage plays such a crucial role in strengthening communities and I've been extremely proud to have the opportunity to make a contribution to this through the Committee for Wales. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about new projects and meeting a diverse range of people involved who are as passionate about their heritage as I am.  It has been a fantastic 6 years with HLF."
Natasha Hirst, HLF Wales committee member

“I was thrilled to become a member of the South West Committee of HLF, but had no idea at the time just how fulfilling an experience it would turn out to be. What has really made the last six years such a treat, is witnessing the energy, creativity and genuine public spiritedness that goes into project after project. Being part of a body awarding heritage grants is a big responsibility and a huge privilege - attending the openings and launches, especially for the smaller community led projects, has often been a humbling and life affirming experience for me. And this all happens whilst working alongside a team of dedicated and professional HLF staff. No wonder we smile a lot.”
Tony Richardson, HLF South West committee member

The work of our committees
A chair guides meeting whereas committee members take decisions on all requests between £100,000 and £2million and provide a crucial regional perspective to the HLF Board on larger grants, targeted initiatives and on regional priorities. Chairs and members meet people involved in heritage projects, represent HLF at openings and events and act as an advocate for the value of heritage to modern life.

Who should consider applying?
Individuals need to have a broad appreciation of heritage and a commitment to promoting public understanding and enjoyment of it to the widest possible audience. We look for an understanding of regional issues and project development and delivery and an ability to think strategically and analytically and for good communication skills.

We are keen to receive applications from people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences who can demonstrate an affinity for a country or regions diverse and exciting heritage.
