Cardiff People First delivered a two year project working with people with learning disabilities from predominantly BAME cultural backgrounds, to learn about Welsh heritage in both Newport and Cardiff.

Cardiff People First is a self advocacy organisation run by and for people with a learning disability in Cardiff.

Focusing on a core group of 15-30 young members, linking in with heritage partners and utilising new digital technology, this project created a heritage trail linking Cardiff and Newport.

Research workshops held at Newport University, Glamorgan Archives, Gwent Archives, Cardiff Story and Newport Museum provided opportunities for participants to learn about cultural heritage and participants attended multi-cultural events such as Chinese New Year, Diwali, Cardiff Mela, National Eisteddfod and Black History Month.

Ten participants provided oral history recordings and training was provided to create a virtual heritage trail in Cardiff and Newport, involving barcodes that linked to physical sites. Bilingual worksheets and leaflets were created and all information gathered culminated into an exhibition showcased at the Pierhead building in Cardiff Bay and the Project Space in Commercial Street Newport.
