Kenyan Lifestyle Contrast

Project description: To engage with young people in Slough from British Kenyan backgrounds and create opportunities to reconnect with and record Kenyan heritage, with a specific focus on traditional practices around the transition from youth to adulthood. Also to explore the differences and similarities in lifestyles of young people of Kenyan descent living in Slough and those who grew up in Kenya and now live in England.

Nepalese Heritage in Kent – an interactive mobile exhibition

Project description: To engage with the intangible cultural heritage of the Nepalese community in the UK, including the similarities and differences between specific Nepalese communities and non-Nepalese people. The project will predominantly take place in Dover, Ashford and Folkestone.

50 years of Jacksons Lane

Applicant: Jacksons Lane

Project description: To celebrate, share and expand on the impact that Jacksons Lane has had and continues to have as a heritage site and gathering place for creativity and local social change, with key involvement in activist movements. These include protecting local built and natural environment (for example, against the widening of Archway Road), and supporting deaf and disabled, and LGBTQ+ cultural movements.

200 years and beyond – a living heritage

Applicant: THE PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCIL OF THE ECCLESIASTICAL PARISH OF ST GEORGE WITH ST ANNE AND ST MARK, KEMP TOWN, BRIGHTON
Project description: To make repairs to the church and deliver an events programme, taking three themes from the 200 years of the church’s history: the Regency period, Second World War and the 1960s. It will also improve accessibility through new signage and new equipment for livestreaming events.

Pip and Jim's West Wall Revive Project

Project description: To save the heritage of this Grade II* listed building by environmentally sustainable repair works that will making the west wall and stained glass windows weathertight and secure for the future. And to increase access and participation with the church by providing disabled access and a kitchen/café area that can be used by the local community in this deprived part of Devon.

Youth Engagement on Historical Heritage Sites of London Borough of Tower Hamlet

Project description: Utilising local museums and heritage resources to train 20 young people aged 12–20. They will research and document 16 heritage sites in Tower Hamlets and produce 2,000 A5 colour booklets and videos for distribution to primary and secondary schools in the borough.

Only as a last resort: the story of immigration detention in the UK

Project description: To document a contemporary heritage of resistance conducting research and interviews before creating a four-episode podcast series that will tell the narrative arc of immigration detention in the UK. Ice & Fire will do this in partnership with Oxford Against Immigration Detention, a political campaign acting in the role of consultant.

Project description: To stage a UK tour of the play The Murderess by Neil Edwards, following a ‘re-imagining’ of the production co-produced with young people aged 14–18. Four audio dramas based on historical research will also be created with young people aged 11–16.
