Project description: This ten-month market and investment readiness project aims to expand upon work completed during the applicant’s FIRNS Development project through four core workstreams: developing financial readiness, diversifying investment opportunities and furthering plans for community benefit and governance structures.

Applicant: City of Edinburgh Council

Project description: This year-long market and investment readiness project will enable the City of Edinburgh Council to create a mechanism which will enable private investors to contribute funds to nature restoration and climate adaption projects across Edinburgh.

Decision: Award grant of £60,000 (50% of total project costs)

Applicant: Dumfries and Galloway Council

Project description: This market and investment readiness project aims to generate innovation in restoration of the natural capital of the Solway Firth through research and development of habitat restoration techniques.

Decision: Award grant of £120,000 (71% of total project costs)

#FIRNS 2 Developing a portfolio of river restoration investment packages and delivery support measures for the Source to Sea Fund

Applicant: Fisheries Management Scotland

Project description: To complete preparatory work to inform investable options for freshwater (river catchment) as part of the Source To Sea Fund, a funding framework developed during the applicant’s Round One FIRNS development project that aims to encourage investment into Scotland’s aquatic environment.

Decision: Award grant of £43,662 (54% of total project costs)

Project description: To further develop a model for attracting investment for restoration works along the River Annan.

Decision: Award grant of £67,430 (50% of total project costs)

Applicant: The Knoydart Foundation

Project description: To lay the groundwork for the establishment of a mechanism which will leverage private finance into nature development projects on the Knoydart Peninsula.

Decision: Award grant of £79,124 (100% of total project costs)

Project description: To create a shared framework and platform for small–micro rural enterprises in support of green finance and nature recovery.

Project description: This market and investment readiness project aims to establish replicable governance mechanisms for whole-farm approaches to green finance opportunities.

Decision: Award grant of £79,905 (50% of the total project costs)

Project description: This market and investment readiness project will test the viability of a community certification process which will ultimately ensure community participation and benefits are integral to the delivery of nature projects benefiting from private investment.

Applicant: Bamff Farms

Project description: A nature connectivity project focused on two sub-catchments on the Perthshire / Angus border, east and west of Bamff Wildland. It aims to connect local nature-rich areas via restored corridors, mainly along waterways and riparian zones.

Kilmartin Museum Redevelopment

Applicant: Kilmartin Museum Company Ltd

Project description: Kilmartin Museum are requesting a grant increase to enable payment of the Final Account following completion of the Museum’s transformation, which has encountered programme delays and cost increases as a result of wider construction sector challenges, compounded by additional issues specific to the project and its rural location. 

Decision: Award grant increase of £250,000 to make a total grant of £3,980,200

Discovery Point Transformed – A new centre for Antarctic heritage, environment and learning

Applicant: Dundee Industrial Heritage Limited

Project description: Dundee Industrial Heritage are requesting a grant increase as they are currently navigating a range of complex issues to ensure the organisation can continue to care for the assets in their charge.

Decision: Agree change in grant percentage from 84% to 91%
