Altanagh Townland history

Applicant: Termonmaguirc Historical Society

Project description: This project involves the production of a book charting the history of the 28 farms in the townland of Altanagh. The aim of the project is to encourage increased awareness, appreciation and, importantly, pride by the local community in the heritage of the area.

St Patrick’s Church Heritage and Oral History

Applicant: Down and Connor Diocesan Trust

Project description: This project aims to create a suite of brochures in various languages to outline the history of this beautiful building and include oral history excerpts outlining the experience of local residents.

Decision: Award grant of £10,000 (100% of total project costs)

Remembering Magherafelt Workhouse

Applicant: Loup & District Historical Society

Project description: The project aims to provide an information board and interpretative sign at the original Magherafelt Workhouse site (now the Mid Ulster Hospital, Magherafelt) to raise awareness of the Workhouse location, the significance of the site and its unique history.

Decision: Award grant of £9,786 (100% of total project costs)

Shrigley village celebrates 200 years

Applicant: Killyleagh Youth and Community Association

Project description: This project aims to stage a series of history-based events to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the foundation of the village of Shrigley in Co Down in 1824. It will include researching the village, heritage sporting and music activities, and the exploration of Jewish heritage there.

Decision: Award grant of £9,980 (100% of total project costs)

UAS art gallery

Applicant: Ulster Aviation Society

Project description: The Ulster Aviation Society aims to produce an art gallery within the aviation museum in Lisburn. The exhibition will be a tribute to the late Iain Wyllie, a respected aviation artist from County Down.

Heritage Revival Workshops

Applicant: River Valley Development Association Ltd (RVDA)

Project description: RVDA plan to deliver a number of heritage-based workshops/training to the local community including heritage skills such as dry stone walling, thatching, woodwork, copper smithing, traditional cooking and growing, music and embroidery.

Decision: Award grant of £7,961 (100% of total project costs)

The Derrynoose Banner

Applicant: Derrynoose Community Development Association Ltd

Project description: This project aims to conserve and refurbish the 'Derrynoose Parish' banner, created by eminent Dublin artist Samuel Watson (1818-1867). It has been displayed at countless gatherings and events over the years including the 300th anniversary of the death of Chieftain Eoghan Roe O Neill in Cavan (1949), and 'An Tostal Day' in Dublin (1953) at the great celebration of Irish culture.

Breathing History

Project description: To be inclusive and open to women from all sections of rural society, build new connections and widen rural women's understanding of the shared heritage in Co. Armagh. Participants will be able to learn about how the past has shaped our present and how, through heritage, we can connect and build a better future in Northern Ireland.
