This project will create a digital archive of some fascinating cultural objects that ‘celebrate a century of teenage life in Britain’.

The Museum of Youth Culture has a huge collection telling the story of social history of the last 100 years through objects. At its heart is a photographic archive that brings to life major youth and subculture movements – from the swinging sixties to Britpop.

The project concentrates on object handling, cataloguing and conservation and making the collection accessible to everyone through a dedicated archive website. It will work with people from the community, organise hands-on workshops with local schools and train interns in archiving. Partnerships include Southbank Centre, Greenwich Community Schools Network, London College of Fashion, Herbert Gallery & Museum Coventry, and artist Sal Pittman of Klanghaus.

This project received funding through our Dynamic Collections campaign.
