National Lottery Grants for Heritage – £10,000 to £250,000
Each school planted its own meadow and learned about the species it will support, including butterflies, moths, bees and birds. The children brought their learnings to life through an animated video, created by Alternative View Studios.
The Wild in Brent project was about inspiring children to engage with nature and give them agency to make a change to their environment.

Caroline D’Souza, Director of LEAP London CIC, said: "The Wild in Brent project was about inspiring children to engage with nature and give them agency to make a change to their environment. The experience of creating meadow areas from seed meant our young gardeners were able to see first-hand how their actions had boosted the wildlife population in their schools. We hope this film inspires other schools and young gardeners to do the same!"
LEAP London CIC is based in Brent and was established in 2019 as part of the Brent Borough of Culture.
This was LEAP's first project supported by the Heritage Fund, following their engagement in our Areas of Focus work. These are areas with potential for heritage projects, which have historically received lower levels of investment from us.
