National Lottery Grants for Heritage – £10,000 to £250,000
In 1997, the Sefton Park Palm House Preservation Trust received a National Lottery grant to restore the Palm House to its former glory, following years of disrepair.
The building reopened to the public in 2001. The Trust has since been working to further improve the offer for local people and visitors. This latest round of funding will support the installation of new displays about the botanical collection, the Grade II* listed building and its social history.
A programme of activities to help people explore the heritage of the Palm House and its grounds will include:
-
guided tours for visitors and school groups
-
community-curated exhibitions
-
an interactive digital heritage trail
-
community events
-
a loan box for residential care homes
Volunteers will be trained as Palm House guides and White Badge guides accredited by the Institute of Tourist Guiding – the first of their kind in the Liverpool City Region.
