The UK’s only surviving cloth hall, The Piece Hall in Halifax, will become home to a number of independent businesses when it opens its doors on Tuesday 1 August, thanks to £7.2million from the National Lottery. 

The 18th-century hall, once used to trade 'pieces' of cloth, has been reimagined as a new centre of culture and commerce.

To get things off to a flying start, a new programme of cultural events has been put together to attract visitors from across the region and beyond.

Exciting programme of events

Welcome, a free festival, will set the tone for this summer’s unveiling. It will run over three weekends from 18 August to 2 September. The central courtyard of The Piece Hall will be transformed into a creative arena and backdrop to a wide range of cultural activities for everyone to enjoy.

Saxophone Massive

The first event, on Friday 18 August, will be Andy Sheppard’s Saxophone Massive. The internationally celebrated saxophonist will perform an original composition along with around 200 players recruited from across the town and region.

Awe-inspiring aerials

French company Transe Express will close the celebrations at the beginning of September with its aerial show The Enchanted Chandelier. The performance is designed to be a dreamlike and breathtaking spectacle, showcasing The Piece Hall in all its Georgian splendour.
