Today Sir Peter Luff, our new Chair, is in Nottingham to see some of the fantastic heritage the East Midlands has to offer.

From a historic allotment which has undergone a recent transformation to Nottingham Castle which holds over 1,000 years of history, the visit will enable him to see first-hand great projects which have benefited from National Lottery funding.

Sir Peter will also have the chance to meet HLF’s East Midlands team and some of the organisations and volunteers who are helping to make HLF funded projects a success.

It’s an exciting time for HLF. As well as welcoming Sir Peter to the team, we’re also celebrating our 21st birthday this year and of course continuing to fund fantastic heritage projects across the UK. Did you know that more than £380m of money raised by National Lottery players has helped preserve and share heritage across the East Midlands?

This is Sir Peter’s third stop on his mission to visit each of our 12 teams across the UK. He’s already been to Scotland and Yorkshire and the Humber and the South East is next on his list!

While here, Sir Peter will:

  • Visit St Ann’s Allotments, recently transformed thanks to a major restoration project, and meet the tenants and volunteers taking part in an archaeological investigation of its history

  • Meet the people behind the Samuel Morley project which is investigating the cultural and industrial heritage of the East of Nottingham and its links to Victorian merchant and reformer Samuel Morley

  • Tour Nottingham Castle which has received HLF support for plans to transform the way visitors can access its 1,000 year history

  • Take a walk down Carrington Street where plans are being developed to enhance the historic route through the heart of Nottingham
