Nantwich Museum's search for Coronation Photographs

Nantwich Museum's search for Coronation Photographs

Local reports at the time of the Queen's Coronation in 1953 speak of many celebrations including sporting events, processions, gymkhanas, dancing in the streets and at the Civic Hall.

The museum would like to borrow photographs, scan and return them and develop a feature for the Nantwich under the two Elizabeths exhibition which begins on Saturday 2 June, celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

This project has been supported by an award of £19,000 from Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

Contributors are requested to email Angela Graham with their photographs at manager@nantwichmuseum.org.uk or take them to the museum on a Friday at 10.30am where they could be received by the research team preparing the exhibition. The deadline for receipt of the photographs is the end of May.

Alongside this, and as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Nantwich Museum will also be holding two poetry competitions -, one for adults and one for the children of Nantwich schools.

Entries are invited for poems of any length and style on the theme of Nantwich - Past, Present and Future or The Two Elizabeths referring to the two Queen Elizabeths.

The deadline for submission to the museum of entries for the childrens competition is Friday 18 May and for the adult competition the deadline is Saturday 14 July.

The winning poems will be featured in the Nantwich under the two Elizabeths exhibition.

They will also qualify for prizes kindly donated by Nantwich Bookshop.
