How small grants are making a big difference in Northern Ireland
Thanks to them we’ve recently awarded funding to:
Coastal Rowing Heritage NI, awarded £9,700
Three centuries-worth of rich maritime traditions including boat building and off-shore competitive rowing on the Antrim coast will be captured and recorded. Local communities from Carrickfergus to Ballycastle will contribute memories, photographs, stories and artefacts to create an archive that celebrates and preserves this heritage for future generations.
Bringing Victorian Bangor to Life, awarded £8,700
Pupils from Bangor Central Integrated Primary School will learn about the rich Victorian heritage of their town through a series of workshops and guided tours. The project will provide access to archives and create opportunities for the students to engage with the historic built environment. A learning resource pack will also be developed to share this heritage with others.
Forgotten Gaelic Volunteers, awarded £10,000
This project will investigate the full extent of Ulster GAA members' involvement in the war and uncover the personal stories of the soldiers involved. This previously untold story will be shared through a legacy booklet and outreach events.
Between Two Worlds, awarded £10,000
Primary seven students at Hart Memorial Primary School will explore the life of the Portadown-born Sir Robert Hart (1835-1911), an important British diplomat whose legacy has been largely forgotten. The young people will tour local landmarks associated with him, view the Sir Robert Hart Archive which is held at Queen’s University and produce a documentary film to showcase their findings. The film will have its premiere in Queen's Film Theatre.
