Financing Scotland's Historic Environment

The challenge of financing Scotland’s historic environment will be discussed at a landmark conference in Glasgow at the end of March.

HLF Chief Executive Ros Kerslake will give a keynote speech on the opening day of the event jointly organised by Built Environment Forum Scotland, HLF Scotland and the Brick Programme run by The Prince’s Regeneration Trust.

2017 is Scotland’s Year of History Heritage and Archaeology and the conference will consider a range of pressing issues, including the potential for commercial investment in the historic environment, heritage asset management, the transfer of historic assets to communities and the future role of government.

The event, which is taking place at the Grand Central Hotel, Glasgowon 29 and 30 March 2017, will include speakers drawn from a comprehensive range of heritage organisations, as well as the commercial sector.

Recently completed heritage restoration projects supported by the National Lottery through HLF will feature in discussions. These will include Scotland’s first completed Heritage Enterprise Portsoy Sail Loft Bunkhouse on the Moray Firth, Lews Castle on Stornaway – recently opened by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon - Edinburgh Printmakers, and Fairfield Offices, Govan.

Conference sessions will also look at investment in heritage tourism, access to funding and the support of National collections.
