An exciting project to conserve and digitise a unique collection of periodicals and posters from the Troubles and Peace Process has been launched by Northern Ireland First Minister, Arlene Foster.

The Divided Society project at the Linen Hall Library will conserve and increase access to selected documents from the Northern Ireland Political Collection.

Over 350,000 printed items are contained within this unique collection of posters, cartoons and pamphlets, which provide a fascinating insight into Northern Ireland politics and society between the years of 1990 and 2000.

The project was awarded an HLF grant of £374,300 which will be used to help conserve the collection, protecting its more delicate items and increasing access to it. A series of events will also be held to raise awareness of the project and to encourage people to get involved.

Mark Glover, HLF Northern Ireland Committee member, who attended the launch, said: “The Northern Ireland Political Collection captures a key period in our history as viewed by a diverse range of voices.

"This project will help to protect this archive, securing its future and providing increased access to it for more people to learn from and enjoy, and we are delighted to be involved.”
