Sir Peter Luff, our new Chair, is on a mission to visit every one of our 12 teams across the UK over the next few months, and Yorkshire and the Humber is next on his list!

The visits, which started in Scotland on 13 May and finish in the North West later this summer, will enable our new Chair to meet some of the people behind our great projects and see first-hand the benefits of National Lottery funding for heritage in action.

It’s an exciting time for HLF. As well as welcoming Sir Peter to the team, we’re also celebrating our 21st birthday this year and of course continuing to fund fantastic heritage projects across the UK.

More than £470million raised by National Lottery players has helped preserve and share heritage across Yorkshire and the Humber.

As part of his visit today Sir Peter will meet HLF’s Yorkshire team and some of the amazing organisations and volunteers they have worked with on successful heritage projects.

While here, Sir Peter will:

  • Meet the team behind the restorations that have taken place at York Minster, and go behind the scenes to join apprentice stonemasons and carvers at work
  • Go on a tour of the newly refurbished York Army Museum – home to some of the largest regimental collections in the UK and recently re-opened to the public
  • Hear about what’s happening at the York Castle Museum from their community team
  • Go behind the scenes with the Leeds West Indian Centre – organisers of the ever popular Carnival Leeds
  • See first-hand the wonders of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park – winner of Museum of the Year 2014
