It’s an exciting time for HLF. As well as welcoming Sir Peter to the team, we’re also celebrating our 21st birthday this year and of course continuing to fund fantastic heritage projects across the UK.

The visits, starting in Scotland and finishing in the North West, will enable our new Chair to meet some of the people behind our great projects and see first-hand the benefits of National Lottery funding for heritage in action.

More than £730m of money raised by National Lottery players has helped preserve and share heritage across Scotland. Sir Peter will meet HLF’s Scotland team and some of the amazing organisations and volunteers they have worked with on successful heritage projects.

While here, Sir Peter will join injured service volunteers as they explore the remains of St Bernard’s Football Club’s grounds in Edinburgh. Its part of the Adopt-a-Monument project through which volunteers across Scotland survey and look after uncared for archaeological monuments. Later, at the Royal Botanic Gardens he will see the reconstruction of the historic Botanic Cottage as a base for education and activities. Then it’s time for the more macabre as he visits Edinburgh’s internationally important collection of surgical artefacts - soon to be on display in a totally transformed Royal College of Surgeons’ museum.
