The Midlands and East of England is steeped in rich heritage. The region is home to vibrant cities and cultural hubs, picturesque countryside and iconic waterways. Its varied history ranges from the birthplace of William Shakespeare to the industrial Black Country.

Funding
Our National Lottery Heritage Grants funding programme is open – if you have an idea for a project in the Midlands & East of England, we would love to hear from you. Grants are available from £10,000 up to £10m.

Our regular funding workshops and advice sessions are a great opportunity to:

- get tips on how to make a good application
- network with other organisations from your area

The building is wheelchair accessible. There is step-free access via the main entrance, lifts to every floor and a disabled refuge area on the stairs. There are accessible toilets on every floor. Accessible parking spaces are available on request.

The building is wheelchair accessible. There is step-free access via the main entrance on Snow Hill Queensway. There are lifts to all floors, including a platform lift from the ground floor to reception on the first floor. Lifts have a voice announcer and there is a hearing enhancement loop at reception. Accessible toilets are available.

Phase 2 Extension to Ware Museum
The Ware Museum has been extended and refurbished, to allow visitors more space to explore its collections and learn about the history of Ware and the surrounding area.

The Llanymynech Limeworks Heritage Area has been conserved and restored, ensuring the public will be able to enjoy this historic site safely.

Primary school children explore the stories of the Fens
Primary schools explored the customs and traditional stories of the Fens and shared their learning through art, performance, music, exhibitions and publications.

Botolph's Barn
Helpston Parochial Church Council used this grant to restore and convert the Grade II listed Botolph’s Barn into a community facility and exhibition space celebrating the 19th century poet John Clare.

This project facilitated the acquisition and conservation of the Grade II*-listed Priory House in Dunstable.

Bedford High Street THI
Bedford High Street is in a designated conservation area, but before our grant for the restoration of some of its historic buildings, it was looking shabby and unloved.

The construction of a demonstration light railway has preserved vital engineering skills, and helped young people get in touch with their heritage.

Longstone Local History Group carried out further archaeological work on an Iron Age Hill Fort near Bakewell, covering the full extent of Fin Cop.

Leicester LGBT Heritage Project
This three-year project recorded the oral histories of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland's LGBTQ+ communities, from before partial decriminalisation in 1967 to the present day.

Re-telling the Story: Mappa Mundi & Chained Library exhibition
This project aimed to make both the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library accessible to a wide range of people and involve audiences in an interactive way.

Led by Stoke-on-Trent City Council, and delivered in partnership with the Friends of Burslem Park group, this project focused on one of the largest registered Victorian Parks in the UK.
