Newham Music Trust will create a music programme to help Newham’s schools explore the positive impact London 2012 had on the area.

During the 10th anniversary of the games, the Olympics 2012 Legacy Songbook project will discover what London 2012 means to the children and young people of Newham today. The project has received a £24,045 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

During ‘inspiration days’, local school children will visit the Olympic Park to see the buildings and meet the people who brought the Games to life. They will also explore the archive with local historians to discover more about London 2012.

Pupils will take part in songwriting sessions to create their own original songs inspired from these heritage explorations. These original songs will then be learnt by over 2,500 local young musicians, culminating in a memorable massed performance at the Velodrome at the Olympic Park.

All original songs will be available for future school years to learn. Through this project, Newham Music Trust hopes to inspire the next generation to help keep the legacy of the London 2012 Olympics alive.
