Newham based arts company Parrabbola will share some of the memories of the estimated 70,000 volunteers at the heart of London 2012.

Thanks to £9,625 National Lottery funding, Parrabbola’s ‘Being There: memories of the London 2012 Opening and Closing Ceremonies’ project will record volunteer’s memories from the Games’ ceremonies.

The oral histories will then be brought to life in a theatre show during Newham Heritage Month in June 2022. The performance will also be available online.

Project volunteers will learn oral history skills so they can gather as many stories as possible. The recordings and research will be shared with Newham Council’s archive service. It is hoped this heritage resource will continue to grow so the local legacy of the Olympics and Paralympics lives on for future generations.
