Following the completion of a five-year restoration project costing £5.7million, Boston Manor House in Brentford has opened to the public once again.

Thanks to the funding, of which we invested over £3m, the three-story Jacobean building has been saved from Historic England’s Heritage At Risk Register. Dating from 1623, it is one of the earliest examples of English Renaissance style in London.

There is much to celebrate in returning the site to its former glory in 2023, when the House celebrates its 400th Anniversary.

'Highly commended' conservation

Set amongst 34 acres of grounds, the house overlooks a beautiful lake along with ancient cedar trees. Now open to the public, the house offers year-round free entry, a new community programme of learning and public events, exhibition rooms, a modern café and a stunning wedding venue.

A team of skilled craftspeople and the Council’s Heritage Team worked tirelessly to bring the restoration project to life and safeguard the building for the future. The project was ‘highly commended’ by the Civic Trust AABC Conservation Awards, recognising its high standards of historic building conservation.

Leader of Hounslow Council, Cllr Shantanu Rajawat, said: “There is much to celebrate in the journey to restore Boston Manor House. From setting out the joint commitment in 2017 to the milestone of returning the site to its former glory in 2023, when the House celebrates its 400th Anniversary. ”

We have also invested in a project at Boston Manor Park, which has restored the natural heritage, improved access and linked the house to the parkland it sits in.
