Since 1994 we have awarded over £2bn of National Lottery and other funding to more than 12,500 projects in the North.

The birthplace of the industrial revolution, the North of England is buzzing with thousands of years of history.

We're proud to support our communities to protect and celebrate the region’s irreplaceable heritage, from the cityscapes of Manchester to the stunning views of the Yorkshire Dales, the cultural history of Newcastle, through to the Lake District's natural beauty. It’s part of our vision for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone, now and in the future.

Our National Lottery Heritage Grants funding programme is open – if you have an idea for a project in the North of England, we would love to hear from you. Grants are available from £10,000 up to £10m.

The Roma Heritage Project will work with local people in Manchester to share traditional dishes and record oral histories from Roma communities.

A new home for County Durham’s historic collections

Mount Oswald, a Grade II Listed manor house, has been transformed into The Story, a new visitor attraction celebrating the heritage of County Durham.

Documenting the biodiversity of the Meanwood Valley

This project has explored the natural environment and biodiversity of the Meanwood Valley in Leeds by training local wildlife ambassadors to map the local flora and fauna.
