Sacred Heart Church Mosaics and Cartoons

Applicant: Congregation of Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Betharram

Project description: This project will save the heritage of this Grade II* listed church in Droitwich, Worcestershire by conserving a 100-year-old mosaic ecclesiastical scheme as well as conserving and digitising the corresponding cartoon drawings.

Decision: Award grant of £189,031 (86%)

WELLIES Heritage Volunteers

Project description: This project will recruit and train volunteers already involved in the WELLIES project initiative to work at three different heritage sites in Sudbury, Derbyshire.

Applicant: Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire Theatre Trust Limited

Project description: This project will celebrate the centenary of the birth of the Stoke artist, playwright, poet and broadcaster, Arthur Berry. It focuses on inclusion and saving heritage through capturing local memories, providing access to archive materials, rediscovering lost art and creating a celebration of North Staffordshire culture.

Project description: This Nottingham-based project will feature interviews with Brazilians living in the UK alongside public exhibitions, talks and workshops related to Brazilian culture and heritage.

Project description: This project will record oral histories about the dance tradition of Muchongoyo with elders of the Zimbabwean diaspora community and through performances and exhibitions targeting schools and community centres.

Project description: This project will investigate the history over the past forty years of Bengali-led community projects and the Bengali-led voluntary sector in Birmingham with the aim of being inclusive.

Project description: This project will create an outside forest school to teach the school’s children about nature near Saffron Walden, Essex.

Project description: This project will provide a solid foundation for the Herefordshire Society by futureproofing their archive and helping them engage more effectively with the community.

Project description: This project will improve the condition of the Grade I listed church, boost nature and engage the local community with the church's history and outdoor space.

The People of Stamford

Project description: This project will record oral histories from Stamford residents covering their living memory of Stamford, Lincolnshire, with the endpoint being the arrival of Ukrainian refugees in Stamford. The findings will be used to create artefacts/art pieces and an exhibition.

Project description: This project will explore the contributions and impact of global music artists within the city of Birmingham.

Project description: This project will bring together Birmingham and Black Country young people and their elders – the Windrush Generation and their descendants – to share their true-life experiences through a stage production, a podcast series and participatory drama workshops.

Preserving Pugin's Church: St Mary's, Wymeswold Roof Repairs and Community Heritage Stories

Applicant: The Parochial Church Council of St Mary Wymeswold

Project description: This project will repair and preserve the fabric of the church of St Mary's Wymeswold, increase its use as a community facility and make the history of this Grade-I listed building in Nottinghamshire more widely accessible.

Decision: Award grant of £227,314 (80%)

Renovating St Giles' in the Centre of Cambridge

Applicant: The Parochial Church Council of The Ecclesiastical Benefice of The Ascension, Cambridge (St. Giles with St. Peter, St. Luke and St. Augustine)

Project description: This project will undertake repair works to the Grade II* listed church to address the threat of damp to parts of the roof, help to manage the collection and disposal of rainwater and help it continue to welcome visitors and run events.  

Decision: Award grant of £216,667 (83%)

Project description: This project will undertake community-based archaeological excavations and research at Castle Hill Park in Beaumont Leys, Leicester.

Project description: This project will reconnect new generations from Leicester's diverse communities with the story of King Richard III, through workshops with primary schools and community centres.
