This is a volunteer-led project focused on restoring a derelict section of the historic Monmouthshire and Brecon canal in Cymbran.

The grant was used to develop a comprehensive programme of training to equip new and existing volunteers with the heritage construction skills and canal management techniques needed to carry out the restoration work.

The Monmouthshire and Brecon canal was built in a number of phases during the late 18th century and early 19th century to transport coal, iron ore and limestone to the docks at Newport.

The project was designed to bring boating, fishing and canoeing back to this stretch of waterway, for the benefit of visitors and the local community.

The funding was also used to improve public information about the canal, including a community website, walking leaflets and newsletters.
