Heritage Grants
Heritage Lincolnshire led the project, working with a wide-range of partner organisations and stakeholders. HLF funding (56%) was matched by contributions from English Heritage, Lincolnshire County Council, district councils and significant volunteer time. Heritage Lincolnshire is a charity aiming to protect, preserve, promote and present the rich heritage of the county for the benefit of local people and visitors.
Volunteers trained to become heritage stewards, developing the skills to carry out rapid condition surveys of heritage assets (including listed buildings, unlisted buildings, places of worship, archaeological sites, parks and gardens and conservation areas). People engaged through taster sessions, training days, public talks and focused projects. Over three years, volunteers completed surveys for 95% of Lincolnshire’s parishes and uploaded results to the project website to create an up to date data set for the county. Young people participated in the project through bespoke projects and residential activities.
A toolkit and downloadable resources were created to support others developing projects involving volunteers in heritage management.
