Sharing Heritage
The project successfully brought together different generations of the 200-plus member club and produced a film for showing at local events and festivals to celebrate its 70 years. Participation in club activities encompasses those from the age of two to 86.
Younger participants – the ‘young biographers’ who took part in the project – were able to develop skills that included interviewing, photography, recording, filming, sketching, painting and producing finished work for exhibition and distribution. They also produced two short films of their own, having interviewed some of the founding and veteran members of what is one of Kent’s oldest cycling clubs.
David Robert, Thanet Road Club Heritage and Sponsorship Officer, commented: "The project is more successful than we could have ever imagined. It has recalled memories, renewed motivation, reinvigorated volunteering and replenished the pride we all feel as club cyclists. We would all like to thank deeply the Heritage Lottery for their generous support."
