This project repaired and refurbished the Grade I listed hall, increasing public access and bringing performance space back into use.

Described as one of the finest neo-classical buildings in Europe, the Hall forms part of the St George’s Cultural Quarter, and is regarded as Liverpool's "village hall".

Our funding helped restore the building to sound condition, securing its historic fabric for the future.

Roof spaces were renovated, the building's original circulation was restored, new lifts and disabled access were installed, and the North Entrance and Small Concert Room were brought back into public use. Air conditioning and new seating were added in the Concert Room, and a speech re-enforcement system installed in the Great Hall to enable a wider range of activities to take place. Back room facilities such as dressing rooms and cloakrooms were also renovated.
