Your Heritage
The school explored, shared and celebrated their heritage going back to 1912. Every child in the school was involved at some point in the project.
Participants focused on the significance and history of the school buildings, the site, and the memories of staff and pupils. They worked with Hampshire Archives and Local Studies, who hold extensive but little-known records related to the school. Archive collections including log books, admission registers and plans all assisted pupils involved in researching the school's history.
More than 20 recordings, carried out by volunteers, were also made by interviewing people from the different eras of the school.
The information learned was shared with the wider public through a new book, the creation of a centenary quilt, and a permanent exhibition of the school's history.
A pop-up exhibition was also created for the Hampshire Record Office to coincide with a lecture about the project and the history of the school.
Finally a celebration event was held at Winchester Cathedral, which was attended by over 800 people including pupils and staff from past and present.
