The project was to acquire Sir John Betjeman’s personal library of books and notes to add to the collection held at the University of Exeter’s library.
The library includes 4,000 books and pamphlets, nearly all of which have John Betjeman’s printed bookplate. Some of the books have also been inscribed to him by the author. During cataloguing, notes and annotations by John Betjeman, including drafts or completed poems or fragments of poems were found, which have never been published.
As part of the acquisition plans, the library proposed to employ a part-time cataloguer, with the aim of making the catalogue and collections fully available to the public, including on the internet.
