Silloth-on-Solway Town Council regenerated its historic Green for the benefit of the local community.
This project focused on three spaces within the area known as 'the Green', one of the largest village greens in the North of England:
- the ‘heart of the Green’ space was rejuvenated so that it could be used for community-focused events and informal recreation
- Skinburness Green was developed as a more informal space where walking and cycling among the wildlife is encouraged
- interpretation panels were added to Harbour Green, so those looking out to the Solway Firth could read about the history of the port
The project restored the historic features across the Green including the avenue and pagoda spaces and provided Victorian-style lighting across the area.
The project focused on making the park somewhere for the whole community to enjoy. New family-friendly facilities were added to the park including an adventure playground, a BMX track, waterplay areas and child-friendly interpretation panels telling the story of the port.
