Focusing on the central historic core of Richhill in Co. Armagh, this project aimed to initiate the social and economic regeneration of the village.

Plans included repairing and restoring key historic properties, improving the quality of open spaces, and bringing redundant buildings back into commercial use. These improvements were to act as a catalyst for further regeneration of the area – maintaining and raising the heritage value of its conservation area status.

Richhill was declared a Conservation Area in 1993. The historic centre, which dates from the 17th/18th century, is laid out along a drumlin hill. The village grew up around the Richhill Castle estate, which is reputedly the first unfortified manor house in the province.

The Townscape Heritage Initiative concentrated on Main Street, which was historically the commercial core of the village. It also focused on selected properties on the bordering Irish Street, Tandragee Street and Maynooth Road.
