Reflections On The Somme, developed and led by young people, will explore perspectives of soldiers who fought in the Battle of the Somme.

This project seeks to engage people in the history of the First World War, specifically the Battle of the Somme, and was designed by a core group of young people to coincide with the centenary in September 2016.

The participating group will visit the Imperial War Museum North to research how the Battle of the Somme fits within the wider context of the First World War. The project will focus on the experiences of young soldiers called up from the North West and will respond to diary entries, poems and drawings created by soldiers whilst in the trenches. Participants will engage in a variety of training activities in creative writing, film and photography to reflect on their research creatively.

The resulting creative work, alongside a teaching resource will be shared with other schools across Liverpool in time for the centenary.
