Heritage Grants
But visitors are not stuck in the history books, they can explore the digital archive and get out into the fresh air while using technology to access the story behind the stunning hill walks, making the whole experience an interactive one. In addition, a special new community space will entice visitors and local groups to feel part of its legacy for the future. By taking photographs and interactive exhibitions out into the community and involving local schools and even toddler groups, the project will continue to bring heritage to life.
Visitors and participants are enthusiastic, with one person saying: “The project has breathed new life into our home; the amazing refurbishment we were able to undertake has allowed us to deliver an exciting programme of events to young and old. Our e-trails are exciting people to start walking and to engage with the history around them."
Another visitor added: "Just used the e-trail for Charlestown and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Often run this route and it's great to learn a bit about the local history. Managed the steps, all 230 approx - real leg burner. How did they do that in the dark and wearing clogs? Thank you to everyone who put this together. A very enjoyable way to spend the afternoon especially starting with a sandwich and beer at the Stubbin. Will spread the word to all who will listen.”
