The Out and Proud project explores and celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) histories and heritage across Greater Manchester using digital technologies.

The focus of the Out and Proud project is to update and digitise Manchester Pride's popular Out in the Past LGBT heritage trail created in 2003, ensuring that these resources regarding a previously under-documented aspect of Manchester’s heritage remain accessible to the general public. The project will engage volunteers in capturing new oral histories and conducting research as well as the collation and organisation of existing materials that have been identified since the initial tour was created.

The project will result in the establishment of an online portal that will bring together the work of historic LGBT projects ensuring visibility and access to this important area of the region’s heritage. New materials collected as part of the project will also be deposited with Archives+ to ensure the heritage is more accessible, better recorded and interpreted for future generations.

Manchester Pride is a charity that campaigns for equality and challenges discrimination. The organisation creates opportunities for engagement and participation and hosts a number of events across the year celebrating LGBT life.
