Lowry stands at the heart of Salford Quays, an area that has transformed from a post-industrial landscape into a vibrant cultural and creative hub.

To marks its 25th birthday, Lowry will be hosting a series of projects involving local communities that will celebrate the stories and heritage of the organisation and its impact on the region.

Lowry Turns 25 will have three main strands:

  • One Lowry, Many Stories –  in partnership with the University of Salford, oral histories from local communities will be captured and documented in the Salford Digital Archives. They will also feature in an art installation at Lowry alongside a photography exhibition.
  • Together We Create   10 awards of up to £2,500 will be given to community-led organisations to support creative projects that celebrate the heritage of Salford Quays and Lowry. Delivered in partnership with Salford CVS (Community and Voluntary Services).
  • Lowry and his Legacy – a programme of community workshops will explore and celebrate the unique relationship between LS Lowry and the people he featured in his work. Manchester-born writer Jeanette Winterson (Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit) will present a public lecture and an academic paper on the subject will be commissioned.

Paul Dennett, Salford City Mayor, said: “Salford Quays has been transformed over the past 25 years but it’s the people of Salford that are at the heart of Lowry’s work and it’s these communities’ voices that will be celebrated through this important project.”
