This project provided opportunities for people to learn and engage with the story of Llanyrafon Manor and the surrounding area.

The Grade II listed manor is one of the oldest non-religious buildings in Torfaen. It was completed renovated for use as a rural heritage centre and opened to the public in May 2012.

This project involved local people and volunteers in researching the history of Llanyrafon and the surrounding area, and presenting this information to the community. Plans included engaging as many local people as possible through a programme of research, interpretation, activities and events, to bring the site alive and explore its fascinating past.

Plans also included:

  • hosting a series of workshops for volunteers and members of the community
  • developing visitor information materials with the help of volunteers
  • training volunteers as guides
