This project has restored parts of the Kingsway Building in widnes that have historical significance.

The Kingsway Building, formerly known as the Municipal Technical School and Public Library, sits on the western corner of Victoria Square in Widnes. The building was transformed as part of the redevelopment of the Victoria Square Conservation Area, led by the local authority (Halton Borough Council). The building itself is rich in architectural features and contributes to the setting of Victoria Square. The building had become derelict and the project was initiated to preserve the character of the building and create new uses for the internal space.

The local authority was keen to bring this heritage building back into use and considered the possibility of expanding the library. This ultimately evolved into the Kingsway Project, to make use of the whole building and provide much more than just a library facility. The Kingsway Learning Centre is now a beautifully refurbished building that is more accessible to the public, hosting a range of services focused on learning and play.
